Outlook on plagiarism

Good Morning,
Plagiarism is a very intimidating word. I understand that we need to give credit where credit is due. I would not want someone to use something that I have written and lead people to believe that he or she had completed the work when it was I that had done it all. It is a form of theft and not acceptable. I have to keep my book open to the APA formatting when I try to reference a article or journal. Sometimes I struggle with trying to figure out what a paper is that I am reading such as, journal, article, newspaper and then if I am not sure then how can I cite it and reference it correctly? If I was aware of someone using my work and not giving me credit the first thing I would do would be approach that person and ask him or her why she had stolen my work and not given me credit. I would expect them to retract or put a correction in their paper, if not then I would bring it to the attention of someone, either their boss or teacher. Last term when I was taking Compostion I and was just learning about the APA formatting and the word plagiarism there was a journalist and I do not remember his name had been accused of plagiarizing and I heard it on the news. I am not sure what happened to him with his job but I know that he was publicly embarrassed. You look around and since I learned this word I realized that if you put a quote at the end of your emails and do not list the author of that quote then you are not giving them credit and that is plagiarism. You can look at facebook and see alot of quotes in different pages and not an author listed, you tend to look at things differently since I started at Kaplan.
Does the internet blur the line "legally owned"? I would have to say yes they do because if you post something for the world to see you have really lost the ability to control what happens to it.
I hope you have a great day!

Being an online student

Good Morning,
Being an online student has given me the ability to be at home and doing my studines on my time. Sometimes I find it challenging when you do not have an instrutor sitting in front of you explaining something to you step by step but there are resources to help you. You can still develop relationships with your peers because of the discussion boards and emails. I have set up a time management schedule to do my homework which works for my responsibilites at home. I set my alarm to get up at 6am and work until 7:30 before I need to get my Mom up for medication. I am the primary caregiver for my Mom and there are times that she requires a lot of care. Having the ability to be able to do my reading and homework assignments when it is convenient for me has helped me pursue a change in my career. I was in the mortgage business for 10 plus years and when I lost my job in November of 2008 I decided I needed to change my career. I researched online classes and decided that the medical office professional was a field that would have a lot of security. Kaplan has offered that and I am enjoying being a student. I have been out of High School since 1970 and love the idea of sitting in my home and learning. What a concept! My goal after I recieve my Associate's Degree would be to get a job working from home doing medical billing and decoding. That way I can work from home, earn an income and still take care of my Mom.
Have a great day!

Another Day of Packing, can't wait until this is done! Have been researching topics to do for the final paper and I am tossing around the childhood immunizations and their controversies. My daughter does not immunize my youngest grandaughter and it makes me nervous. I am not sure if I am from the old school or what. So this might be the perfect topic to investigate. My other choice is probably going to be the effects of Alzheimer's.
Have a great day!

Today has been a pretty busy day! I am trying to pack for a move this weekend. I have been chasing for paint for the new home, running for stuff at wal-mart, taking my Mom to Organ lessons and getting ready for seminar tonight. I will be glad to have my head hit the pillow tonight!
Have a great night!
